Sega Japan Location Tests Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade Edition
Sega Japan has announced some location tests for their new sports arcade game, Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade Edition.

The arcade version is based on the crossover games that have involved famous mascots from Nintendo and Sega competing against each other in Olympic style events. This is first arcade version of these games, which have always been kept as home console releases.

The cabinet uses a unique treadmill-like design that combines a foot sensor pad with a pair of large joysticks that has a button on the side, and features a large vertical LCD monitor. The cabinet features a large LED light design that encompasses the screen and makes up the marquee and it can be linked up to four units!

In the game, players get to choose between four Nintendo and four Sega characters, each of which vary in terms of their attributes – power, speed, and technique – and will compete in four events: 100m Sprint; Hammer Throw; Javelin Throw; and Archery.

The characters so far include Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Princess Peach for the Nintendo team; and Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow for the Sega team! Whether or not more characters or events will be added to the game following testing is yet to be announced.

The company has not announced a release date for the game as of yet, but hopefully we should hear something shortly after the location testing.

UPDATE: Rumour has it that the game will be out in February of next year.
