Cosmic Smash is a spaced out game from Sega, where players experience an explosively fast action futuristic Squash game, where lightning reflexes are a must. The game which calls on graphical inspiration from the futuristic Disney blockbuster film Tron, combines the speed and agility of Virtua Tennis with the relentless addiction of the 70's classic "Pong" Players find themselves controlling a virtual squash player with a visually pulsating heart, playing in an interstellar cosmic recreation room.
Using the same techniques as a squash player the object of the game is to smash the moving blocks at the end of the cubic room. The blocks range in size, colour, direction and speed in which they move. There are normal blocks, unbreakable blocks and bonus blocks. The ball will rebound differently from different blocks ensuring that speedy reflexes are paramount. Smash all the blocks in one cubic environment within the stage time limit, then the player can run to the next stage by taking the cosmic space bus to the next interstellar recreation room.
At each stage the intensity increases and you can visibly see the heart rate of your character increasing. There are a total of 50 stages in the game, with many different routes to the final stage offering unlimited variety. Using one of the 28 different trick shots increases the destructive power of the ball, allowing the player to complete the stage faster. But be warned the penalty for using the trick smash is a faster decrease in the remaining time to clear the stage. Skillful players will be able to make their character run up walls, across ceilings and carry out backflips that Olympic gymnasts could only dream about.
