'One Against 100' on Photo Play
JVH gaming products, Funworld and Endemol are the first manufacturers to adapt a popular TV quiz 'One Against 100' for the Photo Play machine in the Netherlands. The well-known quiz series is ready for launch and if successful the initiators have a host of other TV formats that can easily be adapted into new Photo Play games. The success of this enterprising concept, however, depends on its reception by the operators. Their unreserved support is essential to the successful introduction of the concept.
The gaming industry has been under pressure, partly because gaming and amusement are no longer attracting large numbers of players into the amusement arcades. JVH gaming aims to buck this sombre trend and at the end of 2001 entered into negotiations with Endemol on new opportunities in gaming, possibly in combination with interactive elements through the Internet and mobile phones. It is a completely realistic prospect to attract the millions of viewers who are glued each week to TV hits such as Idols, Big Brother, the Dutch soap GTST (‘Good Times, Bad Times'), All You Need is Love and Temptation Island, into the amusement arcades. JVH gaming, Funworld and Endemol are convinced of this. The precondition is that good TV content is translated into gaming concepts with added value.
Photo Play fulfils this condition thanks to its interactive elements, such as the touchscreen and the network, Photo Play NET. This game variant also has a higher profile, as players are familiar with the new game from the television. The cooperation between JVH gaming, Funworld and Endemol has now delivered its first tangible result - the exclusive introduction of 'One Against 100' on Photo Play in the Netherlands. The quiz, screened each week on TV by one of the biggest Dutch broadcasters, the TROS, is one of the most popular programmes on television in the Netherlands, and has been for some years. This is the first time that a TV format has been transferred to a gaming machine in this way. A game was developed some time ago in England on the basis of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' but this did not go nearly as far. The structure of 'One against 100' for Photo Play is unique, as the player can also qualify to take part in the TV programme through the game. This creates a direct, and highly interesting link with the 'One against 100' show.
In terms of its graphic design and the logic of the game, 'One against 100' is the most advanced product ever, developed specially for Photo Play Net Generation. The game is now ready for the launch and it's success will soon be in the hands of the operators.
