Sega's Profit Jumps 485% - Strong Arcade Machine Sales
Sega Corp, a Japanese video game publisher and arcade game maker, said on Wednesday its group net profit jumped 485 percent in the first half, backed by brisk sales of its arcade game machines.
Sega, known for its "Sonic the Hedgehog" hit character, said April-September net profit totalled 5.93 billion yen ($54.53 million) against 1.01 billion yen in the same period last year.
Sega's healthy results came as little surprise since it revised its first-half forecast last month, projecting a net profit of 5.7 billion yen, up from its previous estimate of 200 million yen.
Sega, which is also Japan's largest game arcade operator, attributed the gain to strong sales of its arcade game machines such as "UFO Catcher 7" and "The Key of Avalon".
