International Game Technology responded today to allegations that it filed false Nevada state sales and used tax returns.
The Company believes that IGT has fully satisfied its tax obligations in Nevada and elsewhere and intends to vigorously defend its position.
While the Company is aware that one of its employees filed a complaint in February 2003 under the Nevada False Claims Act, it was just served with the complaint on New Year's Eve. The complaint is currently under review by the Company and its outside counsel to determine further action.
The Company has met with representatives of both the Nevada Attorney General's Office and the Nevada Department of Taxation and will continue to be responsive to any additional requests for information about this matter.
TJ Matthews, IGT's CEO, reiterated the Company's position, stating, "We believe that the claim is meritless and intend to vigorously defend the Company against the allegations. We look forward to resolving this matter as expeditiously as possible and will work with the appropriate state authorities to that end. IGT stands by its impeccable record of compliance and its reputation as a good corporate citizen."
