Japanese Amusement Surprises
The AOU2004 exhibition (Feb. 20th to 21st in Tokyo) continued the revival of video amusement in a leading position in operator thinking, as well as showing the changing face of the international amusement scene. Sammy confirmed its SEGA merger; Sammy and SNK-PlayMore jointly announced that NeoGeo MVS has been superseded by the ATOMISWAVE as the focus of future SNK brands. A large number of Satellite Terminal (ST) platforms debuted, ranging from wrestling, mahjong, football, and roll playing. AOU also confirmed the next in the Virtua Fighter trilogy, and floated rumors of an appearance of Tekken for 2004. Finally interesting new developments with online ranking at the forefront, titles ZOIDS Infinity and the new comer XE+TH making network gaming appearances.
