The role and importance of brand and content, how markets democratise as they deregulate and multi-channel marketing will be amongst the topics under the spotlight when Oscar Nieboer makes his first international address since becoming managing director of Virgin Games.
Mr Nieboer will be joined at the annual Eurotechno conference – taking place on May 6 at Le Meridien, Brussels, Belgium – by Nolan Bushnell, the renowned founder of Atari and CEO of Uwink, and Bob Cooney, vice-president of marketing at Ecast Inc., as the panel discuss the convergence of emerging technologies and games design in the 21st Century. Taking an in-depth look at the future of gaming and entertainment and the development and application of new technological trends will be Luke Alvarez, CEO of Inspired Broadcast Networks, Peter Hannibal, electronic gaming director with Gala Group and Harmen Brenninkmeijer, CEO of Octavian International.
A wide range of political, social and economic issues pertinent to the European games and gaming sectors will also be addressed at the conference. Dominique Bé, deputy head of the European Commission's Employment and Social Affairs unit will analyse social responsibility at the EU-wide level, within the corporate sector and, with specific regards to gaming, posing the question ‘are we doing enough?'.
With the imminent accession of 10 new member states, this year's Eurotechno will begin by looking at the opportunities presented by changes in the EU landscape, both in terms of geographical enlargement and taxation policies. Expert speakers on these subjects will include Philippe Vlaemminck, senior lawyer and head of office at Belgium-based Vlaemminck & Partners, and Adam Craig, international tax director with Deloitte & Touche. Delegates will also be provided with an update on changing rules and regulations by Jean Bergevin, head of the European Commission's Internal Market unit.
