Las Vegas Woman Wins $11.2 Million at Golden Nugget
A new world record for Wheel of Fortune slot machines was set yesterday afternoon when a local woman won $11.2 million on a Wheel of Fortune dollar machine at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas. The winner, who asked to remain anonymous, was quoted as saying, "I am the happiest person in the world. This will make a wonderful life. We can do anything now." The previous world record for the Wheel of Fortune was $10.7 million that was won in October 2003. After today's jackpot, the Nevada dollar system reset at $1 million. To win the top award, a player must wager the maximum $2 bet. Wheel of Fortune dollars is an annuity game that is paid in 20 installments.
Golden Nugget owners Tim Poster and Tom Breitling were on hand to inspect the three Wheel of Fortune logos lined up on the record-setting machine. "This proves the Golden Nugget is the home of big jackpots," Tim Poster said. In January, a Las Vegas cab driver won $3.2 million at the Golden Nugget on a 5" Elvira video slot machine. That jackpot was the largest ever hit on a nickel slot machine and set a new world record for the denomination. Wheel of Fortune is based on the world's most popular game show and is one of 24 Nevada MegaJackpots systems operated by IGT, a world leader in the manufacturing of gaming machines and proprietary software for progressive gaming systems. All IGT MegaJackpots top awards are paid in annual installments upon verification, except MegaJackpots Instant Winners Jackpots and Rapid Riches MegaJackpots awards, which are paid in their entirety upon verification.
