First strike on Thunder Bowl Goes to Golden Sands
The Golden Sands, a multi-leisure amusements centre located on the sea front of Seaton Carew, Cleveland, UK, has successfully opened Europe's first multi-lane installation of Thunder Bowl, the compact bowling game from world-leading manufacturer AMF, distributed by Namco Europe/Brent Sales. The eight-lane facility was officially opened on Friday 28 May by Councillor Elizabeth Young, member of Hartlepool Borough Council and seat holder of the Seaton Carew ward, assisted by Lloyd Nichols, proprietor of the Golden Sands and representatives of AMF and Brent/Namco. The coin-operated bowling lanes boast a wealth of family-friendly features including safe underground ball return, smaller, lighter bowling balls and programmable touch-screen displays which enable automated bumper rails to automatically pop up and retract when younger players take their turn. Special lighting effects, which illuminate individual lanes and ultra-violet highlighting bring added appeal during evening and night-time sessions. Lloyd Nichols, proprietor of The Golden Sands, said, "We are delighted to be one of the first locations to offer this new type of entertainment: Thunder Bowl fits in perfectly with our plans to expand the range of family-oriented amusements situated on The Front at Seaton Carew, which already includes a vast array of children's rides, bingo, novelty games, videos and simulators, soft play areas and dedicated adult gaming." John McKenzie, Brent/Namco marketing and commercial director said, "This is a significant first step in the European roll-out of Thunder Bowl, which will see a growing number of installations at a wide range of locations over the coming 12 months, from single shortened 2-lane units integrated into existing sites where floor space is restricted right up to multi-lane full scale installations such as this."
