Sega Bowls over Megabowl with Derby Owners Club
Megabowl - the UK's largest bowl brand, has shown commitment to three more of Sega's Derby Owners Club in as many months. Leisure Link's experience of the horse racing game at its other branded bowls as well as Megabowl's own encounter with one of the original installs has led to the recent purchases. Megabowl, now branding new sites Ten Pin, chose to add a four player Derby Owners Club as part of the machine mix to its brand new Cambridge location. Stuart Green of Leisure Link said, "It was clearly apparent from the opening weeks that the Derby Owners Club was attracting players who would otherwise not be spending money in the arcade area. We are very happy with the success of the game."
"The attraction of Derby Owners Club has always been that it draws new customers and adds new money to a business," said Sega's Justin Burke. "Megabowl have realised this instantly and it has lead to the further installs at Star City Birmingham and Croydon in the past two weeks". Sega are proving that new innovation does work with this product. The player and operator get more out of the game than with a regular video. The memory card system that first appeared in the UK four years ago is becoming an increasingly important feature in all games in many formats. The cards build loyalty and allow the players to take a piece of the experience home with them. A card trading mentality has also developed on various auction and game web sites demonstrating the value of the cards to players.
