Taito Announces it Will Release Half Life 2 Arcade
Taito announced last week it will be releasing a customised version of Valve Corporation's Half Life 2 PC title on its Type X arcade hardware. Half Life 2 is a first-person shooting game where players assume the character of research scientist, Gordon Freeman, who must rescue the world. In the game, Gordon Freeman finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted and its population dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa in the original Half Life. The arcade version of Half Life 2 will feature several game modes including a story-based mission, where players can opt for single or multi-player, and an online mission where players can compete with each other on the Japanese networked cabinets. User profiles will be stored on Taito's own servers and will be accessible from anywhere on the network. Taito has slated the game for a Summer 2005 release.
