SpongeBob Squarepants License for Sega
Sega has announced it has just taken on license for the one who lives in a Pineapple under the Sea, SpongeBob Squarepants, from the U.S. massive-hit kids cartoon. Sega Amusements Europe Ltd has the exclusive European rights under this agreement and its involvement is in the form of a new redemption piece to be shown for the first time at this years ATEI. The eye-catching upright cabinet features this favourite absorbent yellow character and all the beauty of Bikini Bottom. The game is a simple, but fun, one that encourages players to drop a coin into the slot and watch it run through the Pineapple onto the sandy surface. Depending what character the coin lands on will affect the amount of redemption tickets paid out. The game also features Tiki music, tropical sounds and the melodious tones of SpongeBobs voice. The US hit series is now popular viewing on European TV and "The Movie" launches in the UK very soon. Paul Williams, Sega Chief Operating Officer, said "Sega is delighted to be associated with this license that is going to be massive over here, and to be diversifying into a different product area."
Sega is also looking into producing a version to dispense capsule prizes instead of tickets to accommodate different operators. Paul continued, "This strong brand, especially with the movie that is set to be this years smash hit, is guaranteed to attract attention and will be a great product for seasonal operators throughout the UK and Europe as well as the FEC market." The product can be found on Sega's main stand (1030) at the ATEI and is available from February.
