World Amusement and Game Summit 2005
The first WAGS Summit has just finished with strong discussions for development of Korean game design and sales. It was also announced that the G Star 2005 was taking good shape; the combined arcade, mobile phone, home game and online game trade show, scheduled for November.
The aim of the Summit was to establish an opportunity for the advancement of the Korean arcade game industry in the overseas market. It was sponsored by the South Korean Government (Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Korea), and supported by KOPA, F2 System and many others.
The Summit brought together many organisations (KGDI, KOPA, KAIPA, KGIA, MCT, Universities, game studios) with the main focus on arcade games, their development and future. Speakers and topics included;
Mori Keiju, Managing Director Sega Japan (pictured) – talked about the Japanese market, and what market advantages Japanese game makers have in the world marketplace.
James Ko, President of Andimiro USA – spoke about how Korean companies need to understand the USA market especially with standardisation of parts and design.
Lee Jae Kwon, Executive President of KOPA – discussed the status and prospects for the Korean game industry.
Lee Ku Chu, President of IGS – introduced the newly established Taiwan Digital Entertainment Assocation (TDEA).
Norman Lefty, Director of Technical Dream Company – showed the history of game making in the coinop industry and what are the key factors in making a good game.
Steve Josifovski, Director of Highway Group – talked about game design and understanding the game operator and end customer.
Jeff Smart, Director Smart Industries – discussed the amusement industry in USA and current US statistics.
With the success of the 1st WAGS, organisers have announced the Summit will become an annual event.
