Sega Releases New Format from the Derby Owners Club Stable
Sega's Derby Owners Club Horseshoe Edition is now available and was developed following the success of the eight and four player Derby Owners Club machines over the past two years. The new Horseshoe format, much in the style of now popular four player plasma AWP style cabinets, was launched at this year's ATEI and is a more compact edition of the successful game. The evolution into this style shows the importance of the multi player product to Sega as it has developed the size of the game over the years, and that the title is still in demand. The four-player design with 60" LCD screen in a 'Horse Shoe' shape is ideal for operators who do not have the space or budget for the larger versions. Whilst the game play remains the same, the smaller footprint - about the size of two deluxe videos, will open up more potential for the manufacturer.
Justin Burke of Sega said, "At the ATEI many customers really liked the new format and could visualise it fitting into their location. When we produced the four player as a progression from the eight player it opened up a whole new opportunity for sales, and Sega are confident that this new format will do the same." A sizeable community has built up across Europe, evident from the dedicated web site and the response if you type the game title in 'Google'. Tournaments both local and national have taken place adding to player value and operator incomes. Utilising Sega Memory Data Card as an integral part of the game mechanics, the whole concept of player cards has now grown and many thoroughbred horses fetch high values on player websites. Sega's UK Sales Manager Aaron Gilbey said, "It is clear from our experience that Derby Owners Club doesn't just replace income but adds to the overall income of the location. Additionally it attracts a different type customer who may not usually spend in that location. It is clear that this is an attraction not just another video game within a venue."
