26-year-old Londoner, Ryan Hart has been crowned the UK's first Tekken 5 champion following his success in the national finals which were held at the Namco Station on London's Southbank. The pre-tournament favourite, who is a product specialist working in the consumer video games industry, defeated fellow Londoner, Eze Izundu, to claim the coveted title, a cheque for 1,000 and a unique, customised Tekken 5 IC card embedded with UK Champion status.
The final represented the culmination of a nationwide tournament, which began three months earlier with a series of regional qualifiers.
Namco Europe Product Manager, John Brennan believes that the tournament can be judged a success on a number of different levels. He explained: Firstly it confirmed just how powerful a proposition the Tekken brand is, and in particular the huge appeal of Tekken 5 which is, arguably, the most revered game of its kind. He added: Importantly, the tournament also brought some added value to those arcades which hosted the regional stages of the competition and helped us gain a valuable insight into the dynamics and characteristics of the player-base.
