Amusement Showcase International brought the best and brightest of the amusement scene to Chicago for a final time. In this gathering the wintry conditions did not put a chill on the Big announcement and developments revealed. The Stinger's Big amusement reporting goes into depth in four key features; in this first part SEGA shows their Big Sports blaster, as the brand new driver Ford Racing Full Blown made American landfall, and in this coverage the Stinger corrects the facts over the situation with SEGA's European Adult pusher business. Also covered is the development by Namco of their amusement catalogue with presentations of their bowler and Kart racing driver. Betson's investment into video is also reported upon with news of the US appearance of Super Bikes for operators and news of Raw Thrills development.

Dramatic Spike in Attraction Incidents!
The amusement and theme park industry has been swaying from one incident to the other, and March proved the bleakest of months, further crippling the reputation of the industry to effectively police itself. In just one month nearly 100 individuals were stranded or injured (one fatally) at over five venues. From 41 riders stranded in freezing conditions for an hour in England, to over 35 injured in stampedes in Korea, the industry of themed entertainment venues has come out very badly. Association media representation has proven elusive, with some worried that a 'bunker' mentality is driving association non-response. The Stinger Report attempts to break the silence and report on what seems to have become a 'dirty secret' in the industry that once prided itself on its safety record.
