At the ATEI 2007 new week, Photo Play presents its entirely new promotions concept for the first time. A 2D-barcode, the so-called data matrix, is held before the Photo Play terminal's camera lens. The terminal's software recognises the code and the player obtains saved credits for free games or information such as special tips and tricks.

"The technology we work with is similar to that used by the American Post or large industrial enterprises to identify their products", so Marco Huter, funworld ag's CSO. "There are 3x1039 (3 sextilliards) different codes; an unimaginable figure of 41 digits, which provides us with an almost never-ending amount of codes."

The small 3 x 3 cm barcodes can be converted at all linked terminals. In the case of a promotion being launched, respective information is displayed on the Photo Play terminal's screen to guide players through the procedure. "A window pops up on the screen. This is surrounded by green lines that define the area within which the barcode is to be positioned in order to be recognised by the camera", explains Huter, while describing the game system in detail. "Once the code is recognised, it turns out, whether it is a winner or a blank." Regardless of location, the software recognises if the code has been used on a previous occasion.

The many possibilities of applying the barcodes are profound. It is thinkable to distribute barcodes at special Photo Play events or to combine their issuance with the purchase of a beverage. Depending on a particular promotion's objective, the system can also provide credits for a previously defined game. "With this concept Photo Play is a step ahead once again", so Huter, who can be proud of this innovation. "Thus we are able to awaken curiosity and animate guests, who would otherwise not necessarily look into the subject of entertainment terminals, to play a game."

During the ATEI 2007 premiere, the Photo Play team will demonstrate the promotion's principle from 4 pm to 4:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 2 pm to 2:30 pm on Thursday. All those present will receive a barcode. A main prize in the form of SYSTEM 2007 awaits a winner daily while other prizes such as Photo Play bags, neck-holders and caps hide behind the various codes.
