The California Extreme Film Festival is shaping up, with organisers recently announcing the lineup for the festival. The film festival looks set to be a great new addition to the show, and will feature a range of coin-op related documentaries, short films, trailers and promotional videos for pinball and video games.
Headlining the film festival will be High Score, a highly praised documentary centered around single man Bill Carlton's quest for a high score on the Atari classic Missile Command. The high score has stood for twenty years, and to get the 80 million points needed to better the record, Bill must play the game on one quarter for over two days straight. Without a pause button, this means that there will be no sleep, and there can only be one victor in this classic story of Man versus Missile Command. Organisers have announced that Bill will also be available after the screening to answer audience questions.
Other short films that organisers have announced will be screening at the show include Ball Saved, Press Start, Pinball 101, and TILT: The Battle to Save Pinball.
Ball Saved is a pinball documentary by Ben Olson which features a rare glimpse behind the scenes at Stern Pinball. It also includes an interview with Roger Sharpe, a world-class pinball player and historian, and brings you into the world of competitive pinball at the Pinbrawl.
The festival will also feature highlights of TILT: The Battle to Save Pinball by Greg Maletic. This film tells the story of the extraordinary Pinball 2000 machines built by Williams in an effort to save not just the company, but the product that had defined coin-operated entertainment for eighty years.
Pinball 101 is yet another pinball based short film to be screened at the festival. Produced by Keith and Randy Elwin, Pinball 101 is essentially an extended trailer which shows techniques for better pinball play and how to make the ball do what you want.
