Grand Pier Has World-First Ride
Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier is home to the only laser maze ride in the UK - and the only double one - where you can compete directly against your opponent - in the World. The maze was made to order by Funovation in Colorado, USA at a cost of 180,000 pounds.
This is a high-tech ride with real laser beams criss-crossing the room, protecting jewels in the safe.
In a ‘mission impossible' challenge, people must make their way through the laser beams, in darkness to the safe. They must then break the safe and make their way back though the beams to safety.
This ride is against the clock and visitors to the Pier can watch safe-breakers' progress on large screens. Another screen will record the names and times of the fastest safe-breakers that day.
Pier co owner Kerry Michael said: "I commissioned a double laser maze as I could immediately see what a big attraction it would be. Everyone on the Pier will be able to follow the highest scorers of the day on the big screens".
The Pier owners, brother and sister Kerry and Michelle Michael travelled the world seeking out the best rides for the new Pier. They even managed to get back-of-house tours at attractions in Las Vegas and Disney in Florida.
