MoCapGames SciShooter Pods Finished Site Test and Heading to Arcades
As we reported a few months back, MoCapGames has produced one of the first real-time virtual reality games called Sci-Shoota, now called SciShooter. The game has just finished a site test in an undisclosed European (possibly English) location and received a fantastic response from players.
Over a four day test period, SciShooter was a huge hit with players of all ages. Over 29.5 hours of operation a total of 268 games were played, which is an average of 9 games per hour. Player surveys revealed a 'Fun Rating' of 4.25 out of 5, and a 'Play Again Rating' of 4.05 out of 5. This is what players from the site test had to say:
"[I like] how you can control the robot not with a controller but with your actual own body."
"I liked getting all the gear on, that felt really good."
"Yeah, it's just undescribable[sic] and so futuristic!"
"I like how you are the robot."
"Absolutely unbelievable!"
This immersive 4D unit comes with a stereoscopic head mounted display and wearable real time motion capture technology which is worn on the upper body. The game can link up to around 6 systems for the network multiplayer mode, 1:1 mapping and zero lag.
The gameplay includes a training mode to help new players grasp how to navigate their 'Mech Bot' bodies using the highly accurate, real time motion technology which tracks even small movements. It also trains new players on how to aim with the epic sonic pulse gun and deflect using their shield. There is also a '2-player Deathmatch' mode available for players looking for a one-on-one challenge.
The developments of virtual reality into a readily available game provides the industry with a much needed experience that can't be replicated in the home and could just be the shot in the arm arcade has been looking for. Although there are obstacles to making SciShooter a coin-op game, as it does require an assistant to help strap players into all the VR gear, it will make an excellent attraction for any location looking to draw in players.
