The jam is split into two categories: a "Selected Developers" group drawn from ten 'hand-picked' independent developers and an "Open Call" category for all developers with an Oculus Rift SDK.
A total of $50,000 in cash prizes will be awarded, including $10,000 to the winners of each category. Also, the winning entries will be showcased at the IndieCade Festival, held from 3rd-6th October in Culver City, California, and winners will be flown in to personally show off their games to visitors.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the jam and games will be judged on innovation and virtual reality design. If you don't have a developers kit, don't worry, you can still participate at the Playtest Hubs that have been set up in select cities around the world. Players can go to these hubs to share and play-test their games. Playtest Hubs have been set up in:
- University of Southern California, Los Angeles.
- New York University, New York.
- HTW Berlin University, Berlin, Germany.
- Bento Miso Toronto, Canada.
- Perth, Australia, and...
- Atlanta, Georgia (Atlanta Tech).
Looking forward to seeing the developmental leaps and bounds that will be taken over the next three weeks and good luck to all participants!
