It's not often that we get to cover the amusement happenings in Australia, so when we do we get very excited! At this year's Supanova, the third annual Australian Timezone Supanova Pinball Championship will be taking place and this year's top prize is the most technologically advanced pin available from Stern Pinball, US. - WWE Wrestlemania Pro!
The aim of the championship is to bring the thrill of playing a game of pinball to the masses. The number of Australian players recognised by the International Flipper Pinball Association, which maintains the World Pinball Player Ranking, is rapidly growing (from 4 players to 854 since 2011) and pinball's popularity here in Australia is steadily increasing despite the difficulties in obtaining pinballs down under.
Australia has a league of it's own, plus smaller trade shows and weekend charity events, such as Pinfest, which are dedicated to the much loved pinball machine! There is a whole younger generation of players who are now discovering the magic of pinball, the 'Friendliest Sport On The Planet'.
Supanova is all about supporting your cult loves and nieche hobbies, and pinball fits into spectrum perfectly. Players will be able to qualify at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo but also outside Supanova on all registered pinball machines. Any pinball machine in a public place and in a sound working order can be registered for this championship. If you are a pinball machine operator make sure that your site is one of the official sites where players can qualify for the State Final. The locations of all registered machines will be published on the Australian Pinball League website and Facebook. For more information concerning when registration opens and tournaments start,
visit their website.
True to form, this will also be a charity event, fundraising for homeless and in crisis children and youth in Australia. In the past, the league has raised over $7,500 for Mission Australia and other charities at past pinball events. The league would ask all visitors and participants to please support this championship by supporting Mission Australia at each Supanova event and advises that all proceeds from the pinballs at Supanova are going to Mission Australia. So make sure you bring plenty of coin this year!
This event is supported by Supanova Pop Culture Expo and Timezone Australia.
