Following the
location test we reported last week, Sega has released this 3D render of the upcoming Mario and Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympics Arcade Cabinet and have announced the expected release date.
The machine features Mario and Sonic on a treadmill style cabinet which features joystick controls with push buttons and foot pad controls as well, with hand rails for safety, and the the game will feature four events: 100m Sprint; Hammer Throw; Javelin Throw; and Archery.
Along with this new 4 unit (the cabinet will be able to link up to 4 units together) rendering, Sega has also announced the release date for this arcade edition: February 2016. They have also specified that the Japanese version machine will have a "mobile phone kit".
A February release for the machine makes it seem unlikely that we will see this machine at either the IAAPA (November) or EAG International (January) 2016 shows, which would indicate an interest in releasing in the West/English speaking countries. However, this does probably mean it will debut at JAEPO 2016, plus there will be another opportunity in March with Amusement Expo 2016 in Las Vegas, so if it shows up there that could be a strong indication of a West release.
