Square Enix and Marvelous have announced the upcoming release of a new Dragon Quest arcade game - Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Scanner. This arcade machine will be a "scan battle RPG" game, and will be similar to Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road released in 2006.
Square Enix and Marvelous are co-developing the game together, and are hoping to release the game in Japanese arcades initially in 2016. No word yet as to any plans for a wider release.
The game control will have a sword shape and monster trading cards will be available, and so far the only images we have of the game is the logo and a possible header/poster design that shows the main characters (a young boy) holding a card and a dragon item, and in front of him are several activated cards with creatures emerging from the cards.
The young protagonist is surrounded by various monsters, monsters we can assume will be in the trading card set, and the background shows a very simple, cartoon kingdom with towers and castles in the background - all these little details lends itself to a medieval rendition of the fantasy/RPG style.
Square Enix has launched an official web page for
Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Scanner, so hopefully we will see some new information there soon.
