Wonderland Fun Park Expansion At Melbourne Docklands Precinct
Wonderland Fun Park announced today that the popular family fun park is very excited to be moving operations with a large outdoor event space venue located underneath the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, in the Docklands Precinct, in early 2016 as part of their expansion.
Official Press Release:
The park’s move facing Waterfront Way and Footscray Road will make for a new entertainment destination with high area visibility and will include festival stages, children’s attractions and amusements areas, Spiegeltent, additional event space Spiegeltent garden, retail store and function areas that will activate approximately the currently unused space.
The existing park, adjacent to the O’Brien Group Arena, will close on 26 January due to the site development of Hoyts cinemas and will reopen as part of the expanded site on 25 March as a tenancy of the Japanese-owned Sanoyas Ride Australia, owners of the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel.
Sanoyas Rides Australia General Manager, Garren Cox said the team at the Melbourne Star is pleased with the opportunity to work even more closely with Wonderland. “Wonderland’s move over to the Melbourne Star Piazza strengthens an already rewarding relationship for both parties. The Wonderland product complements the experience that we offer at Melbourne Star and builds upon the growth and development taking place in the Docklands precinct,” said Mr. Cox.
“The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is a great centerpiece for our guest entertainment experience,” said Wonderland Co-owner and Operator Colin Davis. “Our partnership with a fellow visitor attraction is a great synergy and supports driving new and repeat guests to Docklands.”
Partner and Wonderland Co-owner/Operator Melissa Head agrees, “We can now offer a whole package of both adult and family entertainment in a larger dedicated and branded location. In addition to themed seasonal events, we will utilize the Spiegeltent and festival stages for increased arts & entertainment programming including music, comedy, cabaret and family shows all year round,” says Melissa. “Additionally, we will now be a new competitive venue offer in Melbourne for the corporate functions and special events markets,” she added.
Both Mr. Davis and Ms. Head, natives of Melbourne, have been in the amusement and entertainment industries for over 20 years. Mr. Davis comes from 5 generations of family businesses in fun parks, sideshows, and carnivals in Australia. Ms. Head is also the Founder and Director of Knockout Events, one of Australia’s leading providers of live shows, events and festivals specializing in visitor attractions.
After 6 years at Docklands, the move will come with new corporate branding for Wonderland Fun Park which will be renamed Wonderland Entertainment & Leisure Pty Ltd and trade as Wonderland under the Melbourne Star. The company also recently won a competitive bid as event producers for the Port Douglas Carnivale in May 2016 and will be actively expanding its off-site Wonderland Pop Up Festival ventures in Australia.
