The Golden Age of pinball will be honoured at the 2016 Shoot the Moon Pinball Expo in California (US) this weekend.

Starting on Friday, November 11, and going through til Sunday, November 13, the expo will feature hundreds of working pinball machines from the 1930s to the present.

Hosts of the event, Pacific Pinball Museum, are saying this year’s Shoot the Moon will be “our biggest show yet”.

“The proceeds will help us maintain the new warehouse, maintain our collection and expand our art, science and history programs,” Michael Schiess, founder and executive director of Pacific Pinball Museum, said.

Mark Gibson, who developed his skills restoring pinball machines as a hobby, will be sharing his insights at Shoot the Moon.

Mr Gibson is known for his Fun With Pinball exhibit. He created mechanical models and games using old pinball machine parts which he shows at fairs events to give people an idea as to how pinball machines work.

“These days you have no idea what is going on inside your iphone – but with these you can mechanically see what is going on and you can see how to repair it. It is a lost art,” Mr Gibson said.

The expo will be held in a new location – at Pacific Pinball Museum’s new storage facility at Alameda Point.

The not-for-profit museum’s staff and volunteers have built a history-focused organisation.

But the big draw card is the games – from early mechanical pins to classics from the 1970s, such as Charlie’s Angels and Harlem Globetrotters-themed games, to pinball machines from recent years.
