A new arcade that has opened in the US state of Ohio is bringing back the retrocade experience.

Chris Crook from the Times Recorder interviewed Adam Kurtz, the owner of Smashing Barrels Retrocade in Zanesville. Kurtz opened Smashing Barells Retrocade, a name that pays homage to Donkey Kong, on October 28.

As Crook reports:

Adam Kurtz's love of old arcade games began when he would sneak out of his house as a kid to go play Tron at Scottie's Den.

“I pumped so many quarters into Tron,” Kurtz said.

Kurtz, 40, bought his first arcade machine when he was 18. On Oct. 28, he opened Smashing Barrels Retrocade in Colony Square Mall.

The arcade has about 25 retro gaming machines and the miniature basketball game Pop-A-Shot.

Unlike most arcades, Smashing Barrels Retrocade isn't geared toward winning tickets or prizes. Each game costs a quarter or 50 cents.

“What differentiates me from other arcades is they go towards tickets but you won't get anything good out of the ticket,” Kurtz said. “Some arcades you can play a game for a dollar and only get 10 tickets.”
