The Super Smash Bros. series has only ever existed on consoles and once as a handheld.

Unlike fighting games such as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, it has never had time in an arcade cabinet. Until the 2017 Genesis 4 Smash tournament.

Genesis 4 was the fourth edition of the tournament series. It took place in California, US between January 20 and 22.

The event featured singles and doubles tournaments for Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, as well as side events for Street Fighter V, Catherine, Rivals of Aether, and TowerFall Ascension.

Red Bull Esports created arcade cabinets for Super Smash Bros. Melee and made them available for gamers to use at Genesis 4.

The cabinets, of which about 20 were created, featured wheels, Wiis on the front, cup holders in the dashboard, a CRT television inside and two controllers.

Super Smash Bros. Melee, released in 2001, is a crossover fighting game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the GameCube video game console.

The game features characters from Nintendo video game franchises such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, and Pokémon.

Melee includes all playable characters from the first game in the series on the Nintendo 64 and also adds new characters from franchises such as Fire Emblem.

The stages and gameplay modes in Melee make references to, or take their designs from, popular games released by Nintendo.

Melee's gameplay system offers an unorthodox approach to the fighting game genre with a counter that measures damage with percentages, rather than the health bar seen in most fighting games.

It builds on the first game by adding new gameplay features and playable characters.

Following the popularity of its multiplayer gameplay, Melee has been featured in many competitive gaming tournaments, and is still one of the most popular fighting games for competitive play.
