The Galaxy waterpark at Therme Erding, Germany now has now opened the first ever VR waterslide. The VRSlide is an actual waterslide that see's riders wear a waterproof, cordless VR headset powered by Samsung Galaxy S8.
The headset projects riders into three different environments; either a snow, space or sky projection. Riders pick which environment they want to see by picking the specific headset before boarding the waterslide. Headsets are left on a docking station to charge wirelessly when not in use.
The technology behind the headset was created by Californian company Ballast. Unlike traditional VR rides, rider progress and speed varies meaning the creators have had to install motion sensors throughout the slide to ensure projections align to each persons individual speed.
