Andamiro Retires SpongeBob Pineapple Arcade, One of the Industry's Most Successful Card/Pusher Games
Andamiro USA, a division of South Korea's Andamiro Co. Ltd., announced the official retirement of SpongeBob Pineapple Arcade, effective immediately.
The final inventory of SpongeBob Pineapple units sold out in March. Parts and service support for the retired amusement machine line will be available for seven years from its retirement date.
Packaged in a colorful two-player cabinet resembling SpongeBob's famous sea pineapple home and adorned with Nickelodeon's endearing characters, SpongeBob Pineapple Arcade made its debut in early 2015. It immediately earned the respect of amusement machine operators and consistently ranked high on performance charts throughout its six-year service life.
The game also won the hearts of players all over the world, becoming a pop culture icon. Patrons play to win tickets by firing tokens at targets, and by knocking off tokens and collectible cards from a moving "pusher" ledge. The game had two nine-set card series over its long lifecycle. Card supplies will be available for as long as demand lasts.
"SpongeBob Pineapple was a special game for many reasons," said Andamiro USA president Drew Maniscalco. "Personally, it was gratifying as it was my concept, but it was literally and figuratively a game-changer for Andamiro as a company.
"It was the best-selling redemption game in the company's history," Maniscalco continued. "And because of its enormous worldwide success, Andamiro president and chief executive C.S. Lee allowed me to venture further into the world of licensing, which resulted in agreements with Universal, Disney, NFLPA, MLBPA and WWE—all elevating our company profile in the industry and beyond."
Nickelodeon's durable cartoon celebrity has starred in several Andamiro games and will be reprising his arcade role in a new title, which will also play with collectible cards. Look for Andamiro's new SpongeBob game in 2022.
In the meantime, Andamiro markets the Marvel Avengers token pusher, which also plays with collectible cards. Like SpongeBob Pineapple, Avengers is delivering steadily high collections and is anticipated to enjoy a production cycle for many years.
