Arbitration Rules in Favour of ATE
Next year's ATEI and ICE events will take place as originally planned on 21st, 22nd and 23rd of January. The confirmation was received following an arbitration process overseen by Mr Peregrine Simon QC and attended by ATE chief executive Peter Rusbridge, together with representatives from EC&O, owners of Earls Court, and National Boat Show Ltd (NBSL), organisers of the annual International Boat Show, the event which traditionally precedes ATEI/ICE.
If the legally binding arbitration process had gone in favour of the Boat Show, ATEI/ICE 2003 would have been forced to move their dates back by one week or seek an alternative venue. The Arbitrator ruled that Earls Court Limited had agreed to make its exhibition halls available to NBSL from 9 December 2002 to 23 January 2003 but the earlier agreement with ATE would take precedence.
A statement, which was agreed by all parties, confirmed the details: "An arbitration took place in London on 20th and 21st May 2002 at which Earls Court Limited, National Boat Shows Limited and Amusement Trades Exhibitions Limited participated in order to resolve issues concerning a clash of dates for the London Boat Show 2003 and the Amusement Trades Exhibitions International and the International Casino Exhibition for 2003. The Arbitrator ruled that the ATEI and ICE 2003 shows shall be permitted to take place on the dates previously agreed with Earls Court Limited with the shows opening for 21st January 2003 to 23rd January 2003."
On receiving Mr Simon's ruling, Peter Rusbridge said: "There was an outside chance that we and our customers would be the innocent victims in all of this. I am enormously pleased that Peregrine Simon QC, after considering all of the facts, ruled in our favour and that this chapter is now closed. It appears that the mistake was a genuine one and as a trade show organiser I feel greatly for the difficulty this will cause both the National Boat Show and Earls Court. I would like to thank all of our customers – exhibitors and visitors – for their support and look forward to working to achieve another successful b2b event for the international gaming and gambling industries."
