Namco Launches Soul Calibur II
Namco has announced the Europe-wide launch of Soul Calibur II, the highly anticipated sequel to the record breaking combat video game, Soul Calibur. Featuring a combination of the 18 characters from the popular original and a quartet of new combatants, Soul Calibur II couples an enhanced combat system with updated graphics which will delight both Soul Calibur aficionados and newcomers alike, according to Namco Europe sales director, Gary Newman.
"Soul Calibur II is a title that legions of players have been waiting for, and they won't be disappointed", commented Newman. He added: "Soul Calibur II has been designed with the game's familiar button configuration, which builds on the proficiency acquired by players of its hugely successful predecessor, but that's where the similarity ends. The new title's staggering animation and new fighting strategies put players to the ultimate test in the ultimate setting. It's one of the most action-packed fighting titles to enter arcades in a long, long time." Soul Calibur II uses ‘motion blending', a technique relatively new to combat titles, which allows players a quicker and smoother transition from defence to attack, a feature which lends the title an unrivalled in-fight mobility, fluency and responsiveness.
Soul Calibur II also contains a variety of game play modes designed to enhance the longevity of the title. Time Attack Mode is a one-player game in which players battle against computer opponents, aiming to finish the game as quickly as possible. Mission Battle Mode allows players to fight under unique situations and rules, the object is to clear the various missions and earn points for use in The Soul Calibur Museum; a virtual collection of Soul Calibur art, sound and information.
Survival Mode is a one-player game in which players must defeat as many computer opponents as possible with a single life bar. Team Battle Mode enables payers to unite multiple characters to play as a team against another player or a computer opponent. In Vs Battle Mode players fight against each other. By adjusting the life bar option in Vs Battle Mode handicapped game play is also available.
