The importance of social responsibility as global gaming market enters biggest boom period. ‘Social responsibility' has become the phrase of the moment for gambling operators throughout the world. In the UK, the government has made explicit the link between social responsibility and deregulation.
Reflecting the importance of problem gambling, the European Casino Summit, which is being held at The Hotel Martinez in Cannes, France on 27th and 28th June, is bringing together three of the leading world experts in the field in a panel session entitled ‘Problem Gambling – the Social Responsibilities and Issues for the Gaming Industry'. Event organisers ATE provide an exclusive preview of what the panel of experts – Paul Bellringer OBE of UK-based charity GamCare, Keith Whyte, executive director of the National Council of Problem Gambling (USA) and Pieter Remmers of the European Association for the Study of Gambling – have to say on a subject which many observers believe to be pivotal to the development of the $100bn turnover global industry.
The conforence will feature an address by UK-based charity GamCare – which will address the social impact of gambling and delivers programmes to raise awareness of the issues. Then Keith Whyte, executive director of the National Council of Problem Gambling (USA), shares his British counterpart's views and has identified three key issues, which he believes will have a major impact on the way the gaming industry grows its market. Also Messrs Bellringer, Whyte and Remmers will co-present a panel session entitled ‘Problem Gambling – The Social Responsibilities and Issues for the Gaming Industry' at the forthcoming European Casino Summit, a two-day European Gaming Organisation (EGO) conference organised by ATE, which takes place at The Hotel Martinez, Cannes on 27th and 28th June 2002.
Shortly thereafter, Paul Bellringer will present his vision of social responsibility – as it applies to promoting public awareness of gaming within the regulatory framework of the UK's Gambling Review – at ATE's Marketing and Advertising Opportunities for Casino, Gaming & Betting Industries Conference being staged at the Chelsea Village, London on 8th and 9th July.
