Machineguard Announce New Service
Machineguard – UK are pleased to announce that the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) has granted them status as an Umbrella Body. This means they will be able to access criminal record information, through a new service called Disclosure.

Disclosure is a document containing information held by the police and government departments. It can be used by employers to make safer recruitment decisions. The Disclosures are provided to Machineguard by the CRB an executive agency of the Home Office. Machineguard will be able to offer the industry a means to check the background of job applicants to ensure that they do not have a history that would make them unsuitable for the posts they are trying to fill. The disclosures will provide details of a persons criminal record including convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer (PNC). If the position involves contact with children, disclosers will also contain details from lists held by the Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). This service offered by Machineguard will for the first time allow checks to be made on existing staff with their consent.

Gary Pettengell of Machineguard-UK said "The leisure and gaming industry has a duty of care to protect children and vulnerable adults from harm. The creation of the Criminal Records Bureau and the services offered by Machineguard is an important step towards achieving that. The benefits to the industry are immense both from the point of view of protecting children to combating crime." Machineguards disclosure service will go live on 1st August 2002. Application forms will be available from the company who will make a small charge for each Disclosure.

It is intended that companies will request a Disclosure after a provisional offer of employment is made to a candidate. The individual / company will then apply to the CRB via an umbrella body such as Machineguard-UK for a Disclosure. For Standard and Enhanced Disclosures, there will be a requirement for the application to be countersigned by organisations such as Machineguard-UK. The original Disclosure will then be issued to the individual and a copy sent to Machineguard. Who will notify the employer of the candidates suitability for the job applied for.
