European publication Edge Magazine has commissioned industry specialist Kevin Williams to write a cover feature to look at the changing fortunes of the video amusement market. To be published on the 10th of October 2002.
Commenting on this influential article, Kevin Williams stated, "I was gratified that the Edge team would agreed to such a comprehensive investigation on our industry. I have attempted to speak to a number of key players in this sector, and pulled together an all encompassing snapshot of our past, present and future."
Kevin went on to say, "It has been a factor of our insular nature in the video arcade sector, that has made it very difficult for the consumer games media to cover the sector. This lack of popular publicity reaching our core audience (the players) has compounded the amusement sectors current plight, the new opportunities not being reported. The feature for Edge hopes to try and redress some of this imbalance."
Kevin Hayes of Namco of America, Al Stone from Sega Enterprises America and trade publication RePlay Magazine's Steve White are just three of the many approached for the feature, and who have kindly offered their views on key areas of the market.
A strong background of reference material drawing on insights from current developers has gone to support this feature. Some surprising observations have been charted, looking at the past 1983 ‘Crash' and its possible influence upon the downturn in video arcade gaming that came in the Nineties.
Certain questions regarding why video amusement has fallen off the players radar in recent years, and weather video amusement can surmount the hold on players that the latest console systems have on their disposable income, are investigated in depth.
