AT&T and Sega Unite for Next-Gen Wirless Games
Japanese game publishing giant Sega has teamed with AT&T Wireless to deliver content on the carrier's mMode next-generation platform. The partnership represents a trend among U.S. operators to cash in on the popularity of entertainment applications by delivering them directly to customers' cell phones and other handheld devices. According to AT&T spokesperson Ritch Blasi, the agreement is one of several initiatives focusing on games that the company plans to announce this week in conjunction with the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) convention in Las Vegas.
The company has announced that the first three of this new raft of entertainment packages have been developed by Japanese games developer Sega. The games will include Sega's Java-based titles Monkey Ball, Soccer Slam and Fast Lane, all of which will be available for subscribers to download and then play offline. The games can be played on Motorola's T720 handsets (pictured above).
