Tecmo Revises Profit Projections
Japanese developer Tecmo has revised its projections for the current half year's trading and now expects to record a 40 million Yen (€328,000) profit - reversing a previously anticipated 170 million Yen (€1.4m) loss.
The change in fortunes comes thanks to strong performance of Tecmo's software line-up, in particular sustained sales of Dead or Alive 3 on the Xbox(cover pictured left), which sold an unexpectedly large 100,000 copies during the reporting period - on top of over one million copies previously sold worldwide. The company's PlayStation 2 software has also performed above expectations.
Tecmo expects to record a 1.47 billion Yen (€12.1m) profit for the full year, on sales of 12.39 billion Yen (€102m). The last six months has been quiet for the company, making the profit somewhat surprising; the next few months are expected to be highly profitable, however, thanks to the launch of the hugely anticipated Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball on Xbox, and the arrival of the latest instalment in the popular Gallop Racer series on the PS2 in Japan.
