One of last year's hottest modern arcade titles has just seen it's previously verified world record smashed. Local Japanese superstar player Takeo Ueki has just achieved an incredible score of 652,095,760 at Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings on the 5-song setting variation.
For those unfamiliar with the game, players select different songs and become physically engaged in the game itself, dancing in order to hit arrow directional pads on the floor with their feet. This title, along with "Mo-Cap Boxing" and "Police 911-2" are part of a growing number of arcade releases that require physically interactive gameplay.
The game is extremely intense, and it is not unusual for gamers to bring their own bottled water to cool down during gameplay, or for proprietors to position the gamestation by one (or more) fans. Gamers of all ages and sizes have been able to perform well.
Takeo set the new world record as follows...
1st : Paranoia KCET Clean Mix, 89,412,025
2nd : Paranoia KCET Clean Mix, 89,617,200
3rd : Max 300, 99,201,920
4th : Max 300, 99,302,720
5th : Maxx Unlimited, 97,912,860
EX Stage : Maxx Unlimited, 97,648,655
One More EX Stage : Kakumei (this is written in Chinese Characters), 79,000,380
The first six (6) songs were performed at "Heavy" difficulty, while the last was "Oni" difficulty by default. The final score displayed in the photo of Takeo by his game reflects the sum of the last 5-songs only, thus explaining the need for referees to keep an accurate log of all songs, titles and scores thoughout the performance of the player.
The game's record capabilities are unusual in that the final total score of all songs is not stored in the game's permanent memory, thus gamers and referees must make an extra effort to catalog every facet of a complete performance. At this time, Twin Galaxies is tracking submissions on the 5-song machines. Most machines are set to 1:30 or 2:00 per song depending on the proprietor, and have a brief rest period between sets. Twin Galaxies tracks the 2:00 per song settings.
