Eurotechno 2003 – Hotel Melia, Barcelona, Spain – 22 May 2003

New product developments in European markets will take centre stage at the forthcoming Eurotechno on 22 May. Together with a revised format, which has been designed to increase interaction and networking between delegates, the Barcelona conference is poised to bring senior industry executives bang up to date with the latest trends and projects taking place across European coin-op and gaming markets.

Nigel Jones, director of Sattori Systems, whose innovative Ball Master concept was unveiled at the recent ATEI in London, will show how new coin-op markets can be opened up through the development of leading edge technologies coupled with focused marketing campaigns and aggressive product placement strategies. "In developing Ball Master, Sattori started off from the physical activities involved in game playing rather than the graphical screen-based actions normally associated with traditional games," states Nigel Jones. "In so doing, we have created a new kind of product based on ‘physical action adventure' which is performing beyond all expectations."

Turning towards other gambling innovation, Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) are the latest phenomena in the UK's Licensed Betting Office market. David Purvis, sales director for leading operator Leisure Link, will explain how betting content, technological change and product innovation have provided additional consumer opportunities in the UK gambling market.

With traditional operators continuing to develop content and applications for online and interactive platforms, there is still much to be learnt from ever expanding i-gaming and gambling markets. Rais Busom, Internet manager with Cirsa Interactive, and Alejandro Péréz García, general manager of new technologies at R. Franco Group, are two leading exponents in this field who will share their expert knowledge and experience with delegates at Eurotechno.

Video slot machines are just one example of existing technology being successfully transferred to new locations within traditional sectors. A key figure from one of Europe's leading slot manufacturers will give an overview of the video slots market, present business models and strategies, and outline the opportunities and threats in respect to conventional AWPs and reel-based games.

Converging competition to the coin-op industry, looking at the trends taking place together with the opportunities and threats being faced, is the subject of a unique panel session. Panellists, drawn from coin-op gaming and casino markets, will include: Neil Chinn, managing director, Maygay Machines; Eduardo Morales, general manager, Sega-Sonic; Aad Kobus, vice-president of VAN (Dutch trade association); Frank Kastelijns, managing director, JvH Gaming; and Andreu Riera, chief executive officer, SCYTL.

Chaired by David Snook, editorial consultant to InterGame, the day will also include: an opening address by Amadeu Farré, director general of gaming for the government of Catalonia; an update on European markets and country-specific issues by Euromat president, Eduardo Antoja; and an analysis by Frank Seninsky, president and CEO, AEM, looking at ways of using technology as a route to increasing customer loyalty and as a tool to raise machine usage.

Urging industry professionals to attend the Barcelona conference, Eduardo Antoja said: "Technology is changing the way we live, our work and our leisure time. Eurotechno will review actual case studies on the technology impact in gaming and leisure, identify trends and help the industry leaders of today and tomorrow to keep their eyes and ears open to innovation."
