DoCoMo Developing 3D image Mobile PhoneThis article comes from Highwaygames.com ![]() As visualized by DoCoMo, a fifth-generation mobile phone would enable multiple users to hold a teleconference via their handsets, which would feature 3D images along with facial expressions on a real-time basis. It would also allow users to play 3D video games. The data transmission speed would be super fast, above 100 megabits per second. At present, an Internet-compatible mobile phone that can handle digital data, like the i-mode phone, the so-called second-generation handset, has a data transmission speed of 9.6 kilobits per second. The first-generation handset can handle only analog signals. DoCoMo has developed an experimental third-generation mobile phone, known as the acronym FOMA, that enables users to talk while watching moving images of the other party on the screen. The data transmission speed is up to 384 kilobits per second. The technical standards of a fourth-generation mobile phone are being formulated by a group of private-sector experts and the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications. It would likely have a data speed of 100 megabits per second. DoCoMo hopes to make the technology in its fifth-generation mobile phones a de facto global standard.
