Licensing of uWink's Games Enables People to Play on Palm UnitsThis article comes from Highwaygames.com ![]() In addition to bam! entertainment marketing the games through their traditional retail outlets, players of the future bam! entertainment titles will be able to continuously upgrade the content directly from uWink terminals with the use of the infrared link found on Palm-based PDAs. In addition to increasing the visibility and availability of uWink's games, the agreement allows operators to benefit from the game software sales business as well as their current business. "It's high time that operators in our industry start to make money from consumer games, and we're excited to offer them the first such opportunity," said Nolan Bushnell, CEO of uWink. "We have only begun to scratch the surface of the e-commerce potential of the uWink system." Once players purchase the basic game module, software can be upgraded directly from uWink terminals via the infrared link. To do so, a patron touches the screen, selects content, pays the fee with cash or credit card, and the information is synchronized through an infrared link as the customer holds the handheld unit next to the terminal's infrared port. uWink believes game players will use the uWink terminals as virtual game vending machines, thereby allowing operators to benefit from the game software sales business in addition to their regular business. Since the games that will be downloaded will be games past their prime, there will be no competition with the operators' daily business. https://www.highwaygames.comhttps://www.highwaygames.com/arcade-news/licensing-of-uwink-s-games-enables-people-to-play-on-palm-units-274/ Copyright © 1999 - 2025, Highwaygames.com All Rights |
