Stanley Kok, public relations manager for Sungei Wang Plaza shopping mall said in response to the announcement, "It's a shame. The government should not impose a blanket ban as many family entertainment outlets will also be affected. "We don't encourage gambling but these (family) centres have car racing and other fun and healthy games." Gambling is forbidden to Malaysian Muslims, making up over half the population and restricts the availability of gambling to others. Abdullah said, "Actually, it has turned addicts out of the young ... they need to go there every day or else they cannot sleep.
