"Placement of certain video games is not conducive to the overall environment we strive to achieve," Mike Campbell, chief executive of Regal's theater operations, said in a statement. Regal's major investor, Colorado billionaire Philip Anschutz, also backs a number of family-friendly media companies that produce content shies away from sex and violence. Some local governments in the United States have attempted to restrict sales of violent games in recent years. Some academics and parents' groups have also condemned content that they say desensitizes kids to the consequences of violence.
