If you've ever wondered what it would be like to run like Sonic, wonder no more, as Sega has no made it possible for fans to run in the shoes of their favorite Sonic the Hedgehog characters!

On April 25th, Sega unveiled a new addition to their Tokyo Joypolis center, Sonic Athletics, a eight person, multiplayer exergaming arcade machine.

Sonic Athletics uses eight characters from the Sonic series - Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Metal Sonic, Silver and Blaze - and pits them against each other in a track and field game which would make an excellent addition to arcade centers and amusement venues who can accommodate the size of the game for all eight players.

The players control their characters with the use of a treadmill, and the faster the player runs, the faster the character moves.

Whether the game will make it out West or not is impossible to tell at this early stage, and will depend on the response to the game in Japan and how they would intend to release the game in the West. The sheer size of the game would make it expensive to buy and operate and would be constricting on space as well, making it uneconomical for independent and small operators.
