Web sites sued for distribution of copyrighted games over the Internet

Some big companies in the amusement industry filed a lawsuit earlier this week against multiple websites which were distributing copyright games around the world from their website. These games are former arcade classics like Pac-Man and where distributed across the web in the form of roms which can be played via an arcade emulator on a PC.Also available for download were full version of PC games (39 game titles), posted on various Web sites. Ric Hirsch, senior vice president of the Interactive Digital Software Assn. in Washington, estimates that game companies lose $3 billion in sales each year from software piracy.
The 12 companies which filed the lawsuit include amusement industry heavyweights like Midway, Capcom and even include Microsoft. If they are successful damages may rise as high as $150,000 per copyright infringment.
